Hydrogen combustion and control in nuclear reactor containment buildings
Creators
- 1. Electric Power Research Institute, Palo Alto, CA
Description
The control of hydrogen that may be present in nuclear reactor containment buildings during postulated core uncovery accidents is discussed. Potential hydrogen behavior, hydrogen control regulations, and recent results from the Electric Power Research Institute research program are presented. Emphasis is placed on issues that are important in the deliberate-ignition approach to hydrogen control. Recent data on the effects of steam, the effects of water fogs and sprays, flammability limits, hydrogen mixing and distribution, and combustion with a continuous hydrogen and steam source are described
