Utility perspectives on the DOE Spent Fuel Management Program
Description
In this talk, the author begins by discussing the priorities of the Nuclear Energy Institute. Next he outlines the nuclear waste program and what nuclear waste legislation should contain. He concludes by outlining his response to DOE's notice of inquiry where he concludes that the only acceptable solution is interim, centralized storage for spent fuels. Other conclusions discussed are: development of an integrated SNF management system; increase involvement of electric utilities and private sector; compensation of utilities for government's failure to meet 1998 date; adhere to schedule and procedures throughout civilian radioactive waste management program
