Steady thermal stresses in a functionally gradient material plate. Generalized thermal condition
Description
Steady thermal stresses in a functionally gradient material plate, which consists of metal and ceramic, are treated theoretically under generalized thermal conditions. Influences of Biot number at a metal surface, which governs the capability of cooling, on the thermal stress reduction are investigated in detail, and the relation between Biot number and the mechanical boundary conditions are cleared. It is suggested that the material integrity in a functionally gradient material can be kept easier with the appropriate control of a cooling capacity at the metal surface than that in two-layered plate even if the conditions of use differ from the conditions of design.
