Measuring the neutron radiative capture cross sections for 238U and 197Au relative to cross sections of neutron elastic scattering on protons

Description

In the paper presented are the methods and results of measuring the neutron radiative capture relative to (n, p)-scattering cross section in 0.35-1.4 MeV range (16 points for 238U and 8 points for 197Au). Neutron flux has been measured by proportional counters, filled with hydrogen or methone; 238U and 198Au activity-Ge-Li-detectors, the efficiency of which is determined by 4πβ-γ-coincidence method. Summary accidental error of the measured cross sections does not exceed on an average 3%. The limits of possible systematic errors are pointed out. The measured energy dependences of 238U and 197Au capture cross sections differ from the latest evaluations of these magnitudes. Relations of these cross sections for 5 values of the energy with 3-4% error are calculated
