Optimization of mechanical systems subjected to dynamic loadings

Description

The optimization of a mechanical system requires the definition of a merit function to be minimized and a set of constraining functions for ensuring the feasibility of the minimum. Those functions are defined by the physical characteristics of the system, whose dynamic behaviour can be predicted by the finite element method, thus requiring a fairly large computer effort, which increases the design costs. A general procedure for dealing wiht those problems is presented. (Author)

A otimizacao de um sistema mecanico requer a definicao de uma funcao de merito a ser minimizada e de um conjunto de funcoes de restricao que assegurem o funcionamento do sistema otimizado. Estas funcoes sao definidas a partir das caracteristicas fisicas do sistema, cujo comportamento dinamico pode ser previsto pelo metodo dos elementos finitos, necessitando assim um esforco de computacao elevado, o que aumenta os custos do projeto. Um procedimento geral para abordar tais problemas e apresentado. (Autor)
