Statement of research in the field of solidification of high level radioactive wastes in France

Description

Researches undertaken in France on the solidification of fission products are presented. Examples of glass compositions suitable for several types of fuels are given. The irradiation effects, crystallization, leaching and effects of α emitters have been studied. Two processes, one discontinuous, the other continuous have been studied and developed. In Marcoule, a continuous vitrification plant is under building and an experimental air-cooling storage is carried out

Abstract (French)

On presente les recherches entreprises en France sur la solidification des produits de fission. On donne des exemples de compositions de verres convenables pour plusieurs types de combustibles. On a etudie les effets de l'irradiation, la cristallisation, la lixiviation et les effets des emetteurs α. Deux procedes, l'un continu, l'autre discontinu ont ete etudies et mis au point. A Marcoule, une usine de vitrification en continu est en construction et on experimente un stockage avec refroidissement par air
