Description
In structural integrity evaluation of steel plate structures, the empirical formula called BRL (Ballistic Research Laboratory) formula to estimate the minimum thickness to prevent the perforation of steel plate due to missiles is currently used. However, as the technical bases for these methodologies are not disclosed, the accumulation of knowledge is required to confirm the applicability of these methodologies for the tornado missile impact. In this report, in order to clarify the applicability of BRL formula and the perforation conditions of the steel plate when the tornado missile strikes the steel plate, steel plate perforation tests in which impact velocity, projectile mass, impact part shape and steel grade changed were carried out using impact test facility using high speed projectiles. From the test results, it was confirmed that the all test results (penetrated, non-penetrated) coincided with the evaluation by the BRL formula, and input method of impact parameter to the formula. In addition, the material constant K in the BRL formula for SM490 steel was estimated to be less than 1.14 by test results. (author)
