Lead tracer technique for the accountability of plutonium (LEADTRAP)

Description
A method for the input accountabilibity of plutonium using lead as a tracer (LEADTRAP) has been described. MAGTRAP is a tracer technique already developed for the determination of plutonium in the accountability tanks, where magnesium is used as a tracer. However, for various practical reasons it is desirable to have an alternate tracer and lead has been found to meet the requirements. The results of the experiment conducted in the input accountability tank of a reprocessing plant to determine the total amount of uranium by using both lead and magnesium as tracers are reported here. The values obtained for the estimation of total uranium using these two tracers compare well with each other, thus demonstrating the suitability of lead as an alternate tracer. (author)
