Description

The R2Ni2In (R=Gd-Tm) compounds were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, magnetic and specific heat measurements. The compounds crystallize in the orthorhombic Mn2AlB2-type crystal structure. A low temperature ground state is antiferromagnetic. Critical temperature of magnetic ordering does not fulfill the de Gennes scaling which points to the influence of crystal electric field on stabilization of magnetic order. - Highlights: • Magnetic and thermal properties of R2Ni2In (R=Gd-Tb) are reported for the first time. • Magnetic data indicate antiferromagnetic ordering in investigated compounds. • λ-shaped peaks in specific heat data indicate second order phase transition at TN. • Magnetic ordering critical temperatures do not fulfill de Gennes scaling (CEF effect)
