Measurement of the lifetime of the 236U nucleus at excitation energies 6.7--10.6 MeV

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Physics, Moscow State University, USSR

Description

The blocking method has been used to measure the lifetime of the nucleus 236U formed in the reaction 235U+n in the excitation-energy range 6.7--10.6 MeV. Relations appropriate to the experimental distributions are obtained which relate the magnitude of the observed finite-lifetime effect with the average displacement of the compound nucleus from the lattice site of a UO2 crystal. The dependence of the 236U lifetime on excitation energy is analyzed in the framework of the statistical theory of nuclear reactions
