Dose optimization in computed tomography: ICRP 87

Description

The doses given in the use of computed tomography scans are studied, aiming to calibrate the limits of irradiation in patients who need these tests. Furthermore, a good value of computed tomography should be guaranteed by physicians and radiologists for people not being irradiated unfairly, reducing doses and unnecessary tests. A critical evaluation by an ethics committee is suggested for cases where the test is performed for medical research without a cause

Abstract (Spanish)

Las dosis aplicadas en el uso de tomografias computarizadas son estudiadas, pretendiendo calibrar los limites de la irradiacion en los pacientes que necesitan estos examenes. Ademas, una buena optimizacion de la tomografia computarizada debe ser garantizada por medicos y radiologos para que las personas no esten siendo irradiadas injustamente, reduciendo las dosis y los examenes innecesarios. Una evaluacion critica por un comite de etica es sugerida para los casos en que el examen es realizado para investigacion sin una causa clinica
