Two simple symmetry-dependent rules in conjugated systems

Two simple symmetry-dependent rules are stated for π bond orders in conjugated molecules. They hold in systems with a twofold symmetry axis, respectively (I) crossing two π centers; (II) not crossing any π center. The first one involves particular solutions for certain excited states. From the second simple structural ''a priori'' properties follow. (author)
