European steel making by direct nuclear power application

Description
The European Nuclear Steelmaking Club has decided to pursue the concept of a steel works separated from the nuclear reactor generating the gases needed for reducing the iron ore. The energy requirements for the various alternative processes and the issues involved in the selection of the optimum reforming temperature are discussed, taking into account the availability of the various hydrocarbon feedstocks within Europe. A scenario for the eventual introduction of nuclear steelmaking is outlined. (author)
