Experiments on turbulence in plasma focus

  • 1. UKAEA Research Group, Abingdon. Culham Lab.

Description

Light scattering measurements on Plasma Focus indicate that prior to the break-up of the dense pinch the scattered intensity is consistent with a thermal plasma. Following pinch break-up, scattered intensities of up to 3 times thermal have been observed, indicating plasma turbulence. When a pulsed CO2 laser beam was focused into the pinch, the level of Langmuir wave oscillations, which had been close to thermal, was enhanced by up to a factor of 30. (author)
