Influence of orientation and the grain size of Al and Fe on the ion range of He2+

Description
We present the preliminary results of the study by molecular dynamics simulation of the mechanisms of energy loss and the distribution of ion range during the irradiation of Al and Fe with He2+. The results show that the crystal structure, in particular the orientation, clearly has effect on the ion range. For polycrystalline materials, regarding the influence of grain size on the ion range and energy deposition, only for grain sizes about 10-100 nm shows a significant dependence. (orig.)
