Control rod assemblies
Description
Purpose: To improve the cooling efficiency of the control rod assemblies, and to moderate the impact shocks of the control rod assemblies to the guide pipes upon scram in FBR type reactors. Constitution: A neutron absorbing portion covered with an outer cylinder and an inner cyinder are connected to the extraction rod for control rod driver. Aperture-like flow paths are provided at the top of the outer cylinder. The inner cylinder is connected vertically movably and a stopper to make between the outer cylinder and the inner cylinder is provided for securing the coolant flow paths after cooling in the neutron absorbing portion. If the control rod assembly main body drops along the guide pipe upon scram, the coolant pressure at the lower surface of the top of the inner cylinder is increased to slide the cylinder upwardly, close the aperture-like flow paths and increase the pressure in the inner cylinder, whereby the impact shocks to the lower portion of the guide pipe can be moderated.
