Description

We describe in this paper a study of the synthesis and microstructural characterization of CeO2 obtained by pyrolysis of an aerosol, for its application in the preparation of three-way catalysts. The samples so obtained have been characterized by XRD, SEM and HREM, and their average crystallite size has been calculated. SEM photographs of the material show that it is formed as hollow spheres with diameters ranging between 0.1 and 2 μm. HREM images of small pyrosol particles show that each pyrosol sphere is constituted by a large number of very small (50-100 A) CeO2 crystallites randomly distributed. (orig.)
