Transformation between pre-and post-neutron-emission fragment mass distributions

  • 1. Beijing Univ., BJ (China). Dept. of Technical Physics

Description

A seven-point interpolation formula is given for the calculation of neutron yields as a function of fragment mass for various fissioning systems. The formula well reproduces the general trends of experimental data for a wide range of fissioning nuclides from Ac to Cf with excitation energies from spontaneous fission to 45 MeV alpha particles induced fission. That permits one to transform the yields between pre-neutron-emission (initial) and post-neutron-emission (final). The transformed yields are well in accord with experiments except fine structures in the fission of actinides. Injunction with the semiempirical formula on the initial fragment mass distributions given in an earlier publication[1], the final yields may be obtained without any help of empirical data. The precision of the prediction is estimated to be ± 0.5 in the percentage of the yields
