Site selection for low-level radwaste in the western province of Saudi Arabia

Selection of a low level radwaste site is a very complex problem where many interrelated factors affect the process as well as professional judgments of experts are involved. Six potential sites were selected near the city of Jeddah and after a brief reconnaissance studies, the sites were reduced to three. A single site was selected by using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The AHP analysis was based on ten factors namely-size of available area, precipitation, topography, rock and soil types, faulting, seismicity, volcanism, hydrology, hydrogeology, natural resources, and human settlement.
