Description
In the fight against malignant tumors modern medicine makes use not only of electron-rays and X-rays, but now also of neutron beams. Neutron-therapy-units were developed in the past years and are already installed in different clinics. These units use either cyclotrons or (D,T) neutron generators as neutron sources. (D,T) neutron generators using an accelerated deuterium ion beam for producing 14-MeV neutrons in a tritium target have been proven to be very good. For optimal shielding and collimating the neutrons special multi-layered treatment heads were developed. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Die moderne Medizin setzt heute fuer die Bekaempfung boesartiger Tumore neben Elektronen- und Roentgenstrahlen auch Neutronenstrahlen ein. Geeignete Neutronenbestrahlungsanlagen wurden in den letzten Jahren entwickelt und in verschiedenen Kliniken aufgebaut. Als Neutronenquelle dienen Zyklotrons oder (D,T)-Neutronengeneratoren. Insbesondere haben sich (D,T)-Neutronengeneratoren bewaehrt, bei denen 14-MeV-Neutronen durch Beschuss eines Tritiumtargets mit Deuteriumionen entstehen. Fuer die optimale Abschirmung und Ausblendung des Neutronennutzstrahls sind spezielle mehrschichtige Bestrahlungskoepfe entwickelt worden. (orig.)Additional details
