Bruce Power's transition to the equipment performance division

Creators

  • 1. Bruce Power, Tiverton, ON (Canada)

Description

High levels of equipment performance are a function of clear levels of equipment ownership. Leading into Major Component Replacement in 2020 Bruce Power Business Plan depends on excellence in equipment performance on the remaining operating units. As such, Bruce Power recently reorganized its maintenance function to align accountabilities to critical equipment ownership and created a cross functional team approach that now includes Engineering, Work Management and Maintenance resources working in one organization. The Equipment Performance Division officially came into existence on Jan 17, 2019. It involved consolidating all staff from the Station Maintenance Departments, Online and Outage Work Management Departments, Outage and Maintenance Services, and a portion of staff from Station Engineering. This came after completion of a thorough change management plan and incorporation of recommendations from both internal and external independent reviews of the plan. There were five Equipment Performance Teams established with this change: • Rotating Equipment • Fuel Handling • Electrical • Instrumentation and Control • Valves These new equipment teams have already experienced early evidence of improved team work across the Maintenance, Work Management and Engineering disciplines It is anticipated that the new organization will result in improved forced loss rates, reduction of repeat equipment failures and reliable overall equipment performance that will enable operations to run the plant more effectively and efficiently.
