Stability Of Axisymmetric Convective Flows With Respect To Three-Dimensional Perturbations

  • 1. Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa (Israel) Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Description

The three-dimensional instability of axisymmetric convective flows is investigated m1merically using a global spectral and a finite volume method. The linear stability problem separates for different azimuthal modes. This allows5 us to reduce the problem to a sequence of 2D-like problems. The method is successfully applied to a particular problem winch shows experimental evidence of an axisymmetry-breaking instability with a high azimuthal number
