Gamma irradiation effect on Ho3+ doped borate glasses

  • 1. Department of Physics, Bangalore University, Bangalore (India)

Description

Holmium doped borate glasses of different compositions were prepared by conventional melt quenching technique. The effect of irradiation on optical and structural properties were studied using UV-Vis and FTIR techniques. The prepared glasses were irradiated with a 60Co radioisotope to the overall dose of 30 kGy. The measured optical direct and indirect energy band gaps were in the range of 2.46 eV to 2.74 eV and 0.53 eV to 1.25 eV respectively. FTIR spectra shows the vibrations of atoms present in the glass network. (author)
