Design and operation of 500 keV, 10 kW DC industrial electron accelerator at BRIT Vashi

  • 1. Accelerator and Pulse Power Div., Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Full text: A 500 keV, 20 mA, 10 kW DC Cockcroft Walton industrial electron accelerator has been designed and developed by APPD/BARC and commissioned at BRIT Vashi. This accelerator is currently operational at 3 kW beam power level. The accelerator has been operated at 200 to 400 keV and 1 mA to 9 mA levels several times. This paper describes the operational experience gained during first extraction of the beam and subsequent raising the beam power to 3 kW level. Three successful 8 hour test runs of the accelerator at 3 kW beam power were demonstrated. Beam energy, current and power stability was within ±1.0% ±3.5% and 3.8% respectively during 8 hour runs. This accelerator is now being employed for experiments on cross linking of polyethylene sheets and surface treatment of woods by RTDS/BARC
