Value of thallium-201 tomoscintigraphy for the evaluation of myocardial infarct size

Description
Infarct size remains difficult to be quantified although this parameter is strongly related to patient's prognosis. It has become increasingly needed since the advent of thrombolytic therapy in the acute phase of myocardial infarction. Myocardial tomoscintigraphy is the only method that provides a direct visualization of the ischemic area. The method that was developed and validated at Clermont-Ferrand is described and its limits are discussed. The other techniques are also reviewed
Abstract (French)
La mesure de la taille de l'infarctus du myocarde reste difficile malgre la multiplicite des methodes utilisees. Ce parametre est pourtant important pour apprecier le pronostic. Il est devenu primordial pour apprecier l'efficacite des traitements thrombolytiques a la phase aigue de constitution de la necrose. La tomoscintigraphie myocardique est la seule technique qui permette de visualiser et donc de mesurer directement l'etendue du territoire ischemie.
