Use of a goal-tree fault-tree method in display design

This paper describes the development and use of a combination of a goal tree and a fault tree as a method to extract the necessary information the operator must have to prevent incipient failures to propagate into severe events. The paper also describes the difference and the similarities to the Abstraction Hierarchy and how to combine the methods. Furthermore are described how to use graphical elements in a hierarchical display. (Author)
