Fe-computations of a nonplanar coil with different support considerations
- 1. Max-Planck-Institut fuer Plasmaphysik, EURATOM-Association, Garching (Germany, FR)
Description
Because of their toroidal deviation nonplanar coils are subjected to additional mechanical stresses by the magnetic forces when compared with planar coils. All three-dimensional forces and moments acting on an individual coil and all interactive forces and moments between adjacent coils are supported within a complex coil casing, in which the coils are embedded by elastic layers. These non-planar coils are sensitive to support conditions. The mechanical stresses in the coils response accordingly on how the coils are being supported and on the corresponding stiffness of the support system. The present report summarizes the mechanical stress analyses with optimized support regions and the survey of different FE-simulations and their results
