This 5th edition of the standard work first published 20 years ago has been updated to satisfy the national and international regulations now in force. Thus the units of the international system of units (Si) have been introduced in the Federal Republic of Germany: Becquerel and Gray since January 1st, 1978, Sievert since October 1st, 1981. The book discusses the following individual topics: Physical bases; effect of radioactive radiation on man; use of radioactive materials; tactics of action answering radiation incidents; definitions relating to nuclear technology and radiation protection. Die 5. Auflage des vor 20 Jahren erstmals erschienenen Standardwerks passt sich den jetzt gueltigen nationalen und internationalen Regelungen an. So sind die Einheiten des internationalen Einheitensystems (Si) in der Bundesrepublik eingefuehrt: Becquerel und Gray seit 1.1.1978, Sievert seit 1.10.81. Eroertert werden im einzelnen: Physikalische Grundlagen; Wirkung radioaktiver Strahlen auf den Menschen; Anwendung von radioaktiven Stoffen; Taktische Massnahmen - der Strahlenschutzeinsatz; Begriffserlaeuterungen aus Kerntechnik und Strahlenschutz; Tabellen sollen den Einsatz effektiver gestalten helfen.
