Description
Establishing, sustaining, and advancing an enterprise geospatial program at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Legacy Management (LM) will improve its ability to support its core mission: to ensure the future protection of human health and the environment. In March 2020, DOE LM initiated a multi-year effort to implement such a program that includes data consolidation and standardization, system modernization and integration, workflow documentation and best practices, and governance and stewardship, as well as cultural change and adoption. The project is guided by a comprehensive Enterprise GIS Implementation Plan that includes over 80 distinct actions and nearly 400 individual milestones. This paper describes the development of the Implementation Plan, the work accomplished through the first year of the program, and lessons learned. (authors)
