Carbide transformations in chromium-nickel and chromium-manganese steels with 3% chromium

Description

Investigated were chromium-nickel and chromium-manganese steels at combined and separate alloying with tungsten, molybdenum and vanadium. It was shown that a carbide alloying degree and temperature of carbide transformation depend oon steel matrix. Cementite saturetion with the alloying elements is greater and the carbide formation temperature is higher in chromium -manganese steel in comparison with chromium-nickel one. Alloying with molybdenum and tungsten prevents the carbide transformation, but alloying with vanadium or with molybdenum and tungsten in combination facilitates the process. A carbide formation peculiarity in chromium -manganese steels with 3% chromium compared to carbide formation in the same steels with 1-2% chromium is considerable smaller manganese contents in iron and chromium carbides. These data show the way to affect the carbide formation conditions in a structural steel by alloying and to vary its properties depending on the requirements
