Orientational behaviour of liquid crystals studied by NMR
Creators

Description
The first information by NMR resulted from line splittings of proton resonances caused by dipole-dipole coupling in the nematic phase of para-azoxy-anisol which have been studied by Jain et al. about 20 years ago. This method is still today employed and the main part of this lecture is meant to show how much more information can be gained by a more detailed analysis. The author considers thermotropic substances, in particular nematic and smectic phases, and treats the applicabilities of the investigation of dipole broadening and splitting. (Auth.)
