Rotational alignment and stable octupole deformation

Description

The properties of transitional and well-deformed nuclei in the actinide region are discussed in relation with the existence of octupole deformation of the mean field. The Coriolis effects leading to the alignment of the vibrational angular momentum are studied on the basis of an Hamiltonian including a rotational part depending on the difference between the total angular momentum and the angular momentum associated with the octupole vibrations of the nuclear surface, including also a second term describing the excitation of vibrational degrees of freedom and with in addition to the harmonic part, a term describing the anharmonic effects
