Description
Purpose: To surely prevent the occurrence of burning, explosion, etc. in a nuclear reactor, as well as improve the reactor safety and reduce the construction cost by using a simple device. Constitution: A burnable gas generation suppression device comprising a vessel for containing an aqueous solution of inorganic iron compound and a charging device for charging the aqueous solution of the inorganic iron compound into the water of a suppression pool is disposed in a nuclear reactor container. Thus, if the nuclear reactor is isolated upon occurrence of accident, an emergency core cooling system is started to directly charge the aqueous solution contained in the vessel into the pressure vessel of the nuclear reactor. Then, the inorganic iron compound reacts with dissolved oxygen formed by the radiolysis of water to consume oxygen thereby suppress the increase in the oxygen concentration. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent burning and explosion due to burnable gases evolved in the container. (T.M.)
