Effect of surface state on the strength of boron aluminized fibers

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Metallurgii

Description

Strength of boron fibres is studied for its scale dependence during variation of the material surface state achieved by applying a protective boron carride coating and thin aluminium coating by the method of a liquid-phase metallization. The method of gravimetric analysis is used to study the early stages of boron fibre interaction with liquid aluminium melt. Surface structure of the fibres determines the pattern of the fibre-die reaction, which influence the fibre strength dependence on the contact period with a liquid die
