How to observe simple structures in deep inelastic reactions

Evidence is presented for the observation of simple structures at high excitation energy in the energy spectra of fragments from numerous heavy ion reactions, namely 40Ca + 40Ca and 63Cu + 63Cu at incident energies of about 7 MeV/n. Techniques employed in the single as well as in the coincidence experiments are discussed. The main characteristics of these structures are pointed out and some possible interpretations of the experimental observations are given. (Auth.)
