Intermediate-state structure in the 12C(n,n3α) and 16O(n,n4α) breakup induced by 22.5 and 25.4 MeV neutrons

  • 1. Ruder Boskovic Inst., Zagreb (Croatia)

Description

The n3α and n4α final states induced by the interaction of 22.5 and 25.4 MeV neutrons with 12C and 16O are studied in a kinematically complete measurement, using nuclear emulsions as a target and a 4π detector. By determining the excitation energies of the correlated 2α, 3α and 4α particles in each event, the intermediate-state excitation-energy spectra of the reactions 12C(n, n)12C(α)8Be(2α) and 16O(n, n)16O(α)12C(α)8Be(2α) are deduced. Partial cross sections for n+12C inelastic scattering to various reaction bins of the 12C excitation-energy spectrum are tabulated. (orig.)
