The role of geophysical borehole logging in the exploration of uranium deposits
Description
Borehole logging is the geophysical method most extensively used for exploration of uranium deposits. The basic programme of borehole logging for uranium exploration consists of: Natural Gross Count of Gamma-ray logging (N.G.R.), Resistivity logging (R), and Spontaneous Potential (SP). N.G.R is used to discover and evaluate uranium deposits. Besides its application to uranium it is useful in the exploration of phosphatic deposits, while SP and R methods (with N.G.R) can determine the lithological section of the boreholes and make correlation between them which are in the same basin. The interpretation of borehole logging data depends on: Understanding of the exploration theory for uranium, the knowledge of the regional geology including structural conditions, and the experience in making correlation between boreholes data.
