Description

The electrolytic production of uranous for the purpose of partitioning of plutonium in Purex process yields product mixture with good percentage of uranyl ion in the presence of hydrazine. The kinetics of partitioning will be more favorable when the reductant is highly pure. The produced U(IV) in nitric acid medium is stabilized by hydrazine(N2H4). Hydrazine destroys nitrous acid present in nitric acid and prevent oxidation of U(IV) to U(VI). The present study is an attempt to investigate the extraction behavior of uranous from hydrazine medium using a binary mixture of HTTA (acidic theonyl trifluoro acetone) and TBP (Tri-n-butyl phosphate) in n-Dodecane
