KT-1 signature of CT images

Description

Computerized tomography (CT) is used widely by medical experts in assessing the health parameters of a wide variety of patients. Quantification and characterization of these CT images play a very substantive role in this exercise. Medical CT scanners available commercially employ the convolution backprojection algorithm (CBP) for reconstructing CT images from the 'projection data' that is collected by the detector array of the X-ray CT machine. This data is in form of photon counts that gets transformed into an image with the tools of Fourier analysis. This CBP algorithm has been studied in great detail at lIT Kanpur for almost 20 years and the theoretical techniques developed in-house have been applied successfully in several tomography problems in non-medical areas involving X-ray, laser and ultrasound instrumentation. We focus here on the X-ray CT aspect of this theory that shows promise in quantification of treatment progress in cancer patients
