Novel experiments on the formation of water pockets and occurrence of condensation hammer in pipelines in the case of cold leg emergency coolant injection

During emergency coolant injection into the hot or cold leg of the primary system, thermohydraulic states may occur which give rise to water hammers. In most cases mixing processes developing in the area of the feeding point speed up the condensation process even further. The modelling of such processes requires the use of computer programs. To verify the theoretical models, experimental data are necessary which are determined by the described experimental facility. (DG)
