Low latitude ionospheric effects during a winter anomally absorption event
Description
Ionograms are examined at different latitudes on a day when a mid latitude rocket experiment measured a large increase in the electron density in the D-region of the ionosphere constituting the so called ''Winter Anomaly'' in ionospheric absorption of radio waves. It is shown that many features of the anomaly and the ''high'' type sporadic E layer appearing simultaneously over the low latitudes on this occasion could be explained on the basis of long lasting metallic ions and their drifts
