Effect of the cooling rate on the phase composition of rare earth titanates

Description

The effect of different regimes of hardening at cooling rates of specimens of ∼102 and ∼105 k/s on phase composition of rare earth mono- and dititanates as well as the possibility of glass formation in nonvariant points (eutectic and peritectic) binary TiO2-Ln2O3 systems (Ln-La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Y, Sc) are investigated. Tendency to formation of higher symmetric structure is shown to be discovered for Ln2Ti2O7 type compounds (Ln-La... Lu, Y, Sc) with decrease of the ion radius of the lanthanide and increase of the quenching rate, that agrees with behaviour of these compounds in the equilibrium state. Use of ''superrapid'' quenching of compounds of Ln4Ti9O24 composition brought about transition to the amorphous state
