Mobile measuring equipment for radioactive tracers in wear particles

In order to measure the wear of motor parts they are labelled with radionuclides. The amount of radiation of the particles getting into the lubricant circuit by abrasion is then measured with a flow-through measuring technique. Known equipment of this kind is large and bulky. It is now proposed to use a mobile, inexpensive device which can also be transported on small vehicles. The radiation detector is arranged within a flow chamber designed as a double-walled cylinder with a horizontal axis (e.g. within a vacuum vessel). It has a shield against the natural background radiation and a further one against the radiation source. The vacuum vessel has a heat removing device. (UWI)
