Environmental impact assessment

Public authorities are now obliged to thoroughly examine the environmental acceptability of large-scale projects. The Environmental Impact Assessment Act (UPVG) regularises the meanwhile greatly expanded licensing procedure for projects such as the construction of chemical plants, landfills, or waste incineration plants. It provides that effects on each and any environmental good, including possible interactions, be taken into account. The book explains exhaustively the legal issues that arise from the application of the UPVG in Germany and in the EC. This practically oriented reference book is of particular importance at present because so little practical experience has accumulated to date in this field. It shows how the extensive procedure pursant to the UPVG can be conducted quickly and safely. The UPVG has a tangible influence on administrative acts at the Federal as well as the land and the communal level.
