Ammonia effect on sodium borohydride solubility in polyether solvents

  • 1. AN SSSR, Chernogolovka (Russian Federation). Inst. Novykh Khimicheskikh Problem

Description

A considerable increase is revealed of sodium borohydride solubility in diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (from 3.3 to 16 g/100 g of solvent and in dimethoxyethane (from 0.2 to 18 g/100 g of solvent) in the presence of ammonia. On the basis of the data obtained, a procedure of sodium borohydride recrystallization from dimethoxyethane is developed. The procedure permits improving the purity of commercial-grade sodium borohydride from 76 up to 98,6% with the yield of about 73%
