Neutron diffraction study of ordering in titanium carbides and zirconium carbides

Description
Studied are the phenomenon of ordering in titanium and zirconium carbides. The aim of the sutdy is to find the temperature of phase transformation Tsub(c) and its peculiarities. By the method of subsequent annealings and quenchings it is found that the transition temperature Tsub(c) depends on the composition and is equal to 780+-20 deg C for TiCsub(0.52) and 745+-10 deg C for TiCsub(0.62). The value Tsub(c)=900+-25 deg C is obtained for zirconium carbide ZrCsub(0.63). The antiphase domain sizes are estimated according to the widening of super-structural peaks and it is found out that these sizes increase with the growth of the degree of long-range order
