Determination of uranium and thorium in geological samples by mass spectrometry and neutron activation analysis

Description

The isotope dilution mass spectrometry technique and neutron activation analysis were employed for the determination of U and Th concentration is stream sediment and soil provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and in granitic rock samples from Wyoming area (U.S.A.). The concentration results for U and Th, determined with precision better than 5% show a good agreement with the date from literature, presenting relative error in the order of 1% to 14% for U and of 1% to 11% for Th.
