Development of superconducting spoke cavities for an ADS linac

  • 1. Paris-11 Univ., CNRS/IN2P3, 91 - Orsay (France). Inst. de Physique Nucleaire

Description

A high degree of reliability is required for the XADS linac in order to demonstrate the feasibility of a nuclear waste transmutation facility including a high-power proton linac, a spallation neutron source and a subcritical core reactor. IPN Orsay is strongly involved in the XADS project in the frame of which a new horizontal small-scale cryostat called CMO has been acquired and modified in order to perform cold tests of a fully equipped spoke cavity that will compose one part of the superconducting linac. With a working operation of CMO close to an accelerator configuration, a good reliability is foreseen for all the spoke subsystems. In this work, fully linked with reliability engineering, we report the experimental results of' the spoke subsystems and describe the future work that will he completed with CMO. (authors)
