Hit the road - Volume 1: state of recharging in France; Volume 2: deployment of recharging on major highways; Volume 3: deployment of recharging in areas in need of development. September 2023

Description

In May 2023, France passed the milestone of 100,000 public charging points. According to our forecasts, the proportion of home recharging will fall to 63% in 2025 and 56% in 2030 for light private vehicles. The need for public charging is estimated at the level of each municipality, with projections up to 2035. According to the central electrification scenario, this represents a total need for more than 300,000 charging points for over 12 million electric vehicles. Volume 1 - Overview of recharging in France: In this first volume, we examine the current state of electric vehicle recharging in France. As demand for EVs grows, it is crucial to understand where France stands in terms of charging infrastructure. We also explore the government's commitments to electric mobility, including the goal of producing 2 million EVs by 2030. This tome will give us an overview of the recharging landscape in France and its challenges. Volume 2 - Deployment of recharging systems on major roads: The second volume of the 'Hit The Road' study looks at the deployment of recharging infrastructure along major roads in France. As EVs become more and more common, it is crucial to ensure the availability of charging stations for long-distance and heavy goods vehicles. However, according to our analysis, some areas are still poorly equipped in charging points. We will also discuss the number of charging points needed to achieve an average electrification rate of 27% by 2035. Volume 3 - Deployment of recharging in areas in need to development: The third volume of the 'Hit The Road' study focuses on the deployment of charging infrastructure in France's 'areas to be filled'. These areas are currently poorly served by charging stations, creating obstacles to the adoption of EVs. Our modeling of needs for the years 2030-2035 reveals that between 300,000 and 400,000 charging points will be needed to meet the needs of more than 12 million electric vehicles in a central scenario. We will also emphasize the importance of efficient use of these charging points to ensure the profitability of deployment projects
