A comparative survey of the practicability of nondestructive testing methods and their application in product monitoring

Nondestructive testing is applied mainly for the detection and description of failures, but also for other measures to be taken as measurement, confusion, and leak tests. It is only by the aid of special techniques which have not all been fully developed yet that statements expected by materials mechanics can be made on the interpretation and - if possible - the quantification of the results. Very often the quality of the manufactured products permits statements gained from merely attributive tests (good - bad), without further statements on the assessments being necessary. Finally, the increasing importance of nondestructive testing as well as some examples from automated testing are demonstrated with the help of drawings. (orig.)
